Karina is a passionate Science Communicator who uses enthusiasm, creativity and empathy to engage people in science/STEM. A qualified molecular biologist and experienced cancer researcher, in 2014 she transitioned from performing science to a career in communicating it. Today, she leads a novel [Education and Outreach program](https://plantenergy.edu.au/outreach) for the University of Western Australia that engages and excites the community about plant science. Among her proudest achievements, she founded [Virtual Plant Cell (VPC)](https://plantenergy.edu.au/VPC) and *[Plantarium](https://plantenergy.edu.au/outreach/plantarium)*, immersive experiences that connect audiences with plant science and its applications to real world challenges. VPC has been recognised for its impact as a [Western Australian Premier’s Science Award 2018 Engagement Initiative of the Year finalist](https://www.news.uwa.edu.au/2018071610791/uwa-finalists-announced-premiers-science-awards) and 2018 TIGA Games Industry Award finalist (Educational Game).
