About Lois Balmer

Dr Balmer is a researcher, most recently in the area of population health and diabetic complications, she is a lecture in genetics and computational genomics to undergraduate and masters students and she supervises and mentors postgraduate students. Personally she promotes science in every capacity she is able, this includes primary and secondary school children and staff.

Dr Balmer is a motivated researcher and teacher in STEM. This is evidenced by nominations for National Teaching Awards and winning a Vice Chancellor Teaching Excellence Award. She have published several high impact peer-reviewed journal articles that have taken up to a decade to generate, due to work related injury and maternity leave. Additionally she has been involved in obtaining several grants that are very competitive. Lastly, she is known internationally for her collaborative nature, students what to come and work on projects with her, when they do often this results in publication and life-long friend and colleague.
