PREPARATION
Being a virtual conference, you’ll be in charge of how you appear to the audience. Here’s our short guide to help you look and sound great, so you and our audience gets the most out of your session.
The main points are:
- Download, install and sign in to the latest version of Zoom.
- Have your device (phone or computer) set up in a quiet spot with camera at eye level, good lighting, excellent internet connection that won’t be interrupted, and a set of headphones with a built-in mic.
- Plan to be online for one hour, from 15 minutes prior to your official start time.
We have prepared guides with more detail for each role:
We want our audience to connect with you after you speak, following your social media channels for example.
To make it easy for them, please ensure your profile on HeySummit is up to date. You can log in here as a Speaker to update your details via your Speaker Dashboard. Here is an example of a completed profile.
SHARING WITH YOUR NETWORKS
Our membership is active on social media, and we’d love for you to be too!
To help with sharing, we have created some swipe copy you can adapt for email and social media (download text here) and some images you might find useful (download graphics here).
Through the combined efforts of our 20+ volunteers and 500+ attendees, the inaugural one-day 2019 conference had a reach of over 110,000. We’re hoping to break that record.
Please note some general info:
- The official conference name is WiTWA [+] 2020 Virtual Conference.
- This is our second year running the conference.
- This is our third year running the Tech [+] 20 Awards, with all nominees inducted to our Inspiring Role Models page.
- Direct all traffic to https://witwa-2020.heysummit.com/
- Please use the event hashtags #witwaplus2020 and #seeherbeher
- You can tag us as @witwa on all channels except Instagram, which is @womenintechwa
If you’re wondering about our references to tech [+], here’s an explanation from our About page:
“We started using the term tech [+] because being diverse means Women in Tech WA support and develop women and young people in technology, science and innovation, as well as welcoming those who identify outside of these industries. We are gender inclusive and encourage membership from anyone who supports and champions our cause. We celebrate and support women who are all about tech [+] and we aim to encourage those who aspire to all things tech [+].“

FAQs
Q. What happens to the content after the Conference?
The video replays will remain linked via HeySummit for anyone with a ticket to watch on demand till 30 November.
WiTWA won’t be sharing them outside the Conference before then, and we’d ask all speakers to also not share any of the recordings before 1 December 2020.
We have used snippets from 2019 talks to promote this year’s Conference, for example on our social media channels or website. These have typically been 15-30 second ‘value bombs’ taken from talks, or professional photos with quotes/blogs. We expect we’ll use similar content for the 2021 Conference, with screenshots likely to replace the professional photos 🙂
For any queries about how your talk content may be used, please contact the Communications team directly: comms@witwa.org.au.
